APC Waives Presidential Screening Requirement for Tinubu Ahead of 2027 Polls

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has waived the screening requirement for President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, disclosed this in a statement following the 188th meeting of the National Working Committee (NWC) held on Wednesday.

According to Morka, the NWC resolved that Tinubu should be regarded as duly screened in line with the APC Constitution for participation in the party’s forthcoming presidential primaries.

“The NWC deemed him duly screened in accordance with the Constitution of the Party for the purpose of participation in the upcoming primary elections,” the statement said.

Morka explained that the decision was taken pursuant to Article 13.4 (xiii) and (xiv) of the APC Constitution, which empowers the NWC to organise and supervise party primaries and, where necessary, grant waivers in the party’s best interest.

“This decision was made pursuant to the powers conferred on the NWC under Article 13.4 (xiii) and (xiv) of the Constitution of APC to organise and supervise the party’s primaries and, in special circumstances, grant waivers, in the best interest of the party,” the statement added.

The committee noted that Tinubu had already secured overwhelming endorsements and votes of confidence from key stakeholders within the party, including the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF), members and leadership of the National Assembly, and other party organs during the APC National Summit held on May 22, 2025, as well as other statutory meetings.

“It noted further that, as the incumbent president and leader of our great party, having been duly screened and cleared ahead of the 2022 presidential primaries, requiring his physical appearance before a screening committee at this time would be redundant and unnecessary,” Morka stated.

Meanwhile, the lawmaker representing Ikeja Federal Constituency, James Faleke, has purchased Tinubu’s nomination form for the presidential contest scheduled for next year.

Tinubu was elected President in 2023 after defeating Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Peter Obi, who contested under the Labour Party (LP).
