APC Schedules May 15–16 Presidential Primary, Sets Nomination Forms at ₦100m

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has fixed May 15 and 16, 2026, for its presidential primary election as part of preparations for the 2027 general elections.

The timetable, released via the party’s official X handle and detailed in a statement signed by its National Organising Secretary, Mr. Sulaiman Argungu, outlines key pre-election activities, including the sale of forms, screening of aspirants, appeals, and primary elections across all elective positions.

According to the schedule, the sale of expression of interest and nomination forms will run from April 25 to May 2, with a submission deadline of May 4. Screening of aspirants is slated for May 6 to 8, while results will be published on May 11. Appeals are scheduled for May 12 to 13.

Primary elections for other positions will follow in sequence: the House of Representatives on May 18, the Senate on May 20, State Houses of Assembly on May 21, and governorship primaries on May 23.

The party pegged the total cost of forms for presidential aspirants at ₦100 million, comprising ₦30 million for the expression of interest and ₦70 million for the nomination form. Governorship aspirants are to pay ₦50 million, while fees for the Senate, House of Representatives, and State Assembly vary.

“Female aspirants, youth, and physically challenged aspirants are to pay for the expression of interest and 50 per cent of the prescribed nomination fees for each position,” the statement added.

The APC stated that the timetable was issued in accordance with the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the Electoral Act 2026, and guidelines of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). It reaffirmed its commitment to conducting “credible and transparent primary elections” to strengthen internal democracy.

As of the time of filing this report, no APC member has formally declared interest in contesting the presidency. However, several party leaders and affiliated groups have endorsed Bola Tinubu for re-election.

Although Mr. Tinubu has not officially declared his intention to seek a second term, he recently dismissed speculation suggesting he was apprehensive about opposition challenges ahead of the polls.
