Shettima Condemns Maiduguri Attack, Says No Religion Supports Killing
Vice-President Kashim Shettima has expressed grief over the deaths of 25 people killed in multiple explosions across Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, on Monday.
Shettima spoke on Tuesday at the closing of the Annual Ramadan Tafsir at the State House Mosque, Abuja.
He stressed that no religion endorses the killing of innocent lives, noting that the sanctity of human life is a core tenet of all major faiths.
The Vice-President prayed for the repose of the victims’ souls and for strength for their families.
“May the lives of innocent souls — 25 of them — who lost their lives in Maiduguri rest in peace.
“May Allah grant them Al-jannah Firdaus and give their families the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
“May Allah bring this madness to an end. No religion endorses the killing of the innocent,” he said.
He also urged Nigerians to continue praying for the country and for wisdom and courage for President Bola Tinubu and his team.
Reflecting on the lessons of Ramadan, Shettima said the holy month reminds Muslims of humility and accountability.
“In the presence of Allah, the distance between the mighty and the unknown vanishes. What remains is character and accountability,” he said.
He urged Muslims to sustain the values of Ramadan beyond the fasting period, warning against returning to habits that weaken society.
Earlier, the Chief Imam of the State House Mosque, Sheikh Abdulwaheed Abubakar, prayed for peace, development, and the success of government policies.
