Achievers University Expels 15 Students Over Sex Videos, Misconduct

The Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Achievers University, Owo, Prof. Bode Ayorinde, has disclosed that the institution has expelled no fewer than 15 students for offences related to sex videos and other acts of misconduct.

Prof. Ayorinde made the disclosure on Friday in Owo during the university’s 19th matriculation ceremony for 936 newly admitted students.

He warned students against the misuse of social media, describing it as a menace capable of ruining lives and destroying destinies if handled irresponsibly.

“You put your phone in front of you, dance naked, and tag Achievers University, I will dismiss you. Use social media for positive things,” he said.

The pro-chancellor also cited the case of a final-year student who was expelled for comments perceived as inviting Boko Haram to the university.

“He was almost graduating but threatened that if Boko Haram came, he would deal with them. We refunded his ₦2.3 million and dismissed him,” Prof. Ayorinde said.

He urged students to spend their tuition fees wisely and warned against drugs, sex videos, and other vices incompatible with academic excellence.

“We have dismissed more than 15 female students for sex video offences. If you want to rule the world, you will not engage in such acts,” he added.

Prof. Ayorinde further stated that the university operates a zero-tolerance policy on bullying, stressing that all students are equal before the institution.

“If you are caught bullying anyone here, you are gone. It cannot happen in this university,” he said.

He disclosed that, in 2025 alone, 17 students were dismissed for attempting to fraudulently obtain examination clearance without paying their school fees.

The pro-chancellor also warned that students found dealing in or abusing drugs would be expelled without hesitation, recounting how three students were dismissed for trafficking in hard drugs. He urged members of the university community to promptly report such activities.

Prof. Ayorinde blamed some parents and guardians for enabling wrongdoing and advised them to consistently remind their wards to remain disciplined and focused on their studies.

He added that fighting, alcohol consumption, and sexual molestation, whether involving students or staff, would attract immediate expulsion.

In his remarks, the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Amos Aremu, said the university places a premium on discipline, quality assurance, and academic integrity.

Prof. Aremu told the matriculating students that their admission marked the beginning of a journey of self-discovery, intellectual growth, and meaningful contribution to society.

He said they would encounter rigorous lectures, examinations, sleepless nights, and the challenge of balancing academic demands with personal development.

“These challenges are meant to refine you, build resilience, enhance critical thinking, and awaken the leader in you,” he said.

The acting vice-chancellor cautioned students against social vices such as cultism, examination malpractice, cybercrime, sexual impropriety, and drug abuse, warning that such acts could destroy their future.

“These vices have no place in the hallowed halls of academia,” he said.

He assured students that the university would provide a safe, nurturing, and intellectually stimulating environment to support their holistic development.

Delivering the matriculation lecture, Mrs. Ayobami Felix-Olaniyi urged students to recognise the importance of networking while in the university.

She described networking as the process of building meaningful, supportive, and collaborative relationships that enhance learning and personal growth.

Mrs. Felix-Olaniyi advised students to engage lecturers and other university staff for mentorship, guidance, and career development.

Speaking on the topic, ‘Your University, Your Network: Building Relationships and Opportunities’, she encouraged students to leverage experienced mentors both within and beyond the campus.

She also urged them to nurture and sustain their networks, ensuring they remain supportive, relevant, and beneficial throughout their academic and professional lives.
