Senate Pledges Practical Tax Reforms to Strengthen Economy
The Chairman of the Senate Committee on Finance, Senator Sani Musa, has reassured Nigerians that the ongoing public hearing on four proposed tax reform bills is an inclusive process designed to deliver practical and constitutionally sound legislation.
Speaking in an interview ahead of the hearing, Senator Musa emphasised that all stakeholders, including those with dissenting views, were being given an opportunity to contribute their perspectives.
“We will provide this country with a tax law that is practical and effective,” he stated. “Every submission is being carefully considered, and following this hearing, we will embark on a three-day retreat where we will consult with experts and the Office of the Attorney General of the Federation. Our objective is to ensure that the final legislation aligns with the constitution and serves the best interests of Nigerians.”
Senator Musa reaffirmed the committee’s commitment to taking all recommendations into account and developing a tax law that meets the nation’s needs.
He further highlighted President Bola Tinubu’s vision of growing Nigeria’s economy to ₦1 trillion, noting that the tax reforms would play a crucial role in achieving this target.
“This legislation must stand the test of time,” he added. “Even as lawmakers, we will be bound by the laws we enact. Our priority is to ensure Nigerians view this as a fair and effective tax system.”
