Wike Pledges Focus on Satellite Town Development

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr. Nyesom Wike, has reaffirmed the commitment of the FCT Administration to prioritize the development of satellite towns in the region. He made this announcement during the inauguration of Mandate Secretaries for the FCT Administration in Abuja on Tuesday.

Wike emphasized that the prosperity and well-being of the FCT’s residents extend beyond the city center, emphasizing the importance of ensuring progress and development in all areas of the territory.

The newly inaugurated Mandate Secretaries include Mr. Bitrus Garki (Secretary, Area Council Services Secretariat), Mr. Lawan Geidam (Secretary, Agriculture and Rural Development Secretariat), Mr. Danlami Ihayyo (Secretary, Education Secretariat), Dr. Adedolapo Fasawe (Secretary, Health and Environment Services Secretariat), Mr. Salman Dako (Secretary, Legal Services Secretariat), Mr. Chinedum Elechi (Secretary, Economic Planning, Revenue Generation, and Public Private Partnership), and Mr. Uboku Nyah (Secretary, Transportation Secretariat).

Wike stressed the importance of addressing issues affecting service delivery in the FCT Administration, particularly in the procurement process. He emphasized that transparency, efficiency, and accountability must be the guiding principles of their administration.

He highlighted the need to enhance Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) through innovative means to support the development agenda, which includes financing ambitious projects and initiatives.

The minister identified public transportation as a major challenge that needs comprehensive attention, emphasizing the importance of a reliable and comprehensive public transportation system for effective city functioning. He reiterated the Administration’s commitment to establishing such a system that meets the needs of residents.

On the environment, Wike emphasized the significance of clean and well-maintained surroundings for a healthy and prosperous community. He called for collective responsibility between the government and citizens to ensure a cleaner and greener FCT. He also pledged to collaborate closely with law enforcement agencies and communities to ensure a safe and secure environment.

In addition, Wike highlighted the Administration’s focus on the social sector, with plans to uplift education, agriculture, and health sectors to world-class standards. He emphasized the potential for economic growth and job creation in the tourism sector, pledging to promote and develop the FCT’s unique cultural and natural assets to attract both local and international visitors.

Wike concluded by stating that all violations of the Abuja master plan would be addressed decisively, including the potential removal of non-compliant buildings and penalties. He also emphasized the need to review and strengthen relevant laws to prevent exploitation of loopholes that may be detrimental to the Administration and the people of the FCT.
