Night of Highs Turns Sour: NDLEA Busts Lagos Drug Party, Nabs Over 100

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has raided Proxy Nightclub in Victoria Island, Lagos, over a suspected drug party, arresting more than 100 people.

Among those arrested were Lagos socialite and nightclub owner, Mike Eze Nwalie Nwogu, popularly known as Pretty Mike, alongside former Big Brother Naija Housemate Tuoyo Ideh.

In a statement issued on Sunday in Abuja, the NDLEA’s Director of Media and Advocacy, Mr. Femi Babafemi, said operatives stormed the club located at 7 Akin Adesola Street, Victoria Island, in the early hours of Sunday, 26 October.

According to Babafemi, NDLEA officers—who had been embedded at the event from 11 p.m. on Saturday, 25 October—disrupted the party at about 3 a.m. following intelligence reports of planned drug activity.

“Cartons of illicit substances, including Loud and laughing gas, were recovered from the suspects at the party and from the club’s storage area,” he said.

He noted that all suspects, including the club owner, were taken into custody for screening in line with the agency’s Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

In separate operations across the country, NDLEA officers also made significant drug seizures. In Taraba State, operatives arrested suspected traffickers on Tuesday, 21 October, at the Dan-Anacha checkpoint with 450,000 pills of tramadol and exol-5 concealed in a truck transporting building materials from Onitsha, Anambra State, to Mubi, Adamawa State.

Similarly, NDLEA personnel patrolling the Okene–Lokoja Highway in Kogi State seized 162.2 kilogrammes of skunk, a potent strain of cannabis, from a truck on Friday, 24 October. Another 128 kilogrammes of the same substance were recovered in Nasarawa State on Wednesday, 22 October, from a suspect in the Keffi area.

In Lagos, a mother of two alleged to be a major distributor of Canadian and California Loud—strong cannabis variants—was arrested on Friday, 17 October, during a raid at her Lekki residence. Officers recovered 500 grammes of the illicit drugs.

On Thursday, 23 October, NDLEA operatives also raided a home in Solomade Estate, Ikorodu, where they discovered 275 litres of skuchies, a psychoactive mixture made from blackcurrant drink, cannabis, and opioids.

Babafemi reiterated that the NDLEA remains committed to dismantling drug networks across Nigeria and will continue to intensify operations targeting the production, distribution, and consumption of illicit substances.
