NDLEA Intercepts ₦3.4bn Worth of Illicit Drugs in Lagos, Rivers
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted illicit drugs worth an estimated ₦3.428 billion in Lagos and Rivers states.
In a statement released on Sunday, NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi disclosed that the seized items include 3.5 million pills of opioids and 163,000 bottles of codeine syrup.
According to Babafemi, the codeine consignment was intercepted on 29 April during a joint inspection by NDLEA and Customs officers at the Port Harcourt Ports Complex, Onne, Rivers State.
The agency also recovered 1.5 million opioid pills from a suspect, Olarenwaju Wahab, in the Alaba-Rago area of Ojo, Lagos. Further investigations traced the shipment to Q104B, Road 25, Victoria Garden City, Lekki—the residence of one Obinna Kenneth, who is currently on the run.
In another operation, NDLEA operatives at the import shed of Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Ikeja, Lagos, intercepted 42 parcels of Canadian Loud, a potent strain of cannabis, weighing 20kg. The drugs were concealed in tins of chocolate, Milo beverage, white kidney beans, and dark red kidney beans.
