Oyedele Vows to Drive Fiscal Reforms as Minister of State for Finance
The newly sworn-in Minister of State for Finance, Mr. Taiwo Oyedele, has pledged to support the Federal Government’s fiscal reforms and economic management efforts.
Oyedele made the pledge on Monday after taking the oath of office before President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
He described the opportunity to serve at such a critical period in Nigeria’s economic development as a privilege.
“The reward for doing a good job is more work, and it is always a privilege to have the opportunity to serve your country, especially at the highest level,” he said.
Oyedele expressed gratitude to the President for the confidence reposed in him, and also thanked Nigerians and stakeholders who supported his previous work on tax reforms.
He emphasised that reforms must go beyond policy design to effective implementation.
“Reforms are only as good as the paper on which they are written. What is really important is diligent execution — moving from policy formulation to implementation,” he said.
He assured that he would give his best in discharging his responsibilities.
“One thing I can promise the President and the Nigerian people is that I will give my very best at every point in time,” he added.
Oyedele expressed confidence that, with the support of the leadership and professional team at the Ministry of Finance, the government would overcome existing economic challenges.
He noted that the ministry’s priorities would align with the government’s broader economic agenda, particularly revenue mobilisation and fiscal sustainability.
“The priorities are those of the government and the country, particularly around revenue mobilisation to meet increasing public demands at both federal and sub-national levels,” he said.
He also stressed the importance of improving spending efficiency.
“For every naira we earn, we must optimise the value we derive from it to meet the needs of our people,” he said.
He further highlighted debt management and fiscal sustainability as key pillars of the government’s strategy.
Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State, who accompanied Oyedele to the ceremony, commended the President for the appointment.
Aiyedatiwa described Oyedele as a highly experienced professional in fiscal and tax reforms, adding that his appointment underscored the administration’s commitment to competence and effective economic management.
He also thanked the President for strengthening Ondo State’s representation in the Federal Executive Council.
