Gov. Sani Confirms Return of 82 Worshippers Kidnapped in Kaduna Church Attack
Gov. Uba Sani of Kaduna State has confirmed the return of 82 worshippers abducted during the January 18, 2026 attack on Kurmin Wali village in Kajuru Local Government Area.
The governor made the disclosure during a visit to the victims at the Women and Children Shelter in the state capital, where they are currently receiving medical treatment and psychosocial support.
Gov. Sani expressed sympathy to the victims and their families, and assured residents of the Kurmin Wali community that those still in captivity would be freed within days.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to ending banditry and kidnapping across the state, stressing that no effort would be spared until all abductees are safely rescued and reunited with their loved ones.
The governor also commended security agencies for what he described as their swift response and dedication, and urged residents to continue cooperating with authorities to restore lasting peace.
A total of 177 worshippers were reportedly abducted from three churches in the community during the January 18 attack.
Last month, more than 100 people were kidnapped when gunmen stormed the churches. Initially, authorities denied the incident after the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in the state raised the alarm.
However, days later, the Nigeria Police Force spokesman, Mr. Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed that the attack “did happen”.
