ADC Gains Momentum as Obi, Umeh, Others Defect

Mr. John Chuma Nwosu, the governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Anambra State, has welcomed political leaders who recently defected to the party alongside their supporters.

Speaking on Friday, Mr. Nwosu, a former leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Anambra, described the decision of the new entrants as bold and patriotic, noting that it reflected a shared commitment to building a democratic, inclusive, and progressive Nigeria.

He spoke against the backdrop of the defection of Mr. Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 election, who officially left his former party on Wednesday and declared his membership of the ADC in Enugu, alongside several lawmakers.

Mr. Nwosu said the individual and collective decisions of the new members demonstrated courage, political experience, and a strong dedication to advancing the ideals of integrity, justice, and development-driven politics in Nigeria.

According to him, the entrants bring with them a wealth of political and legislative experience, leadership capacity, and deep-rooted connections with the electorate, which would significantly strengthen the ADC’s structure and influence in Anambra State.

“Their arrival will significantly boost the ADC as a credible alternative, anchored on integrity, justice, and a people-oriented agenda for good governance,” Mr. Nwosu said.

He extended a special welcome to Mr. Obi, Sen. Victor Umeh, Sen. Tony Nwoye, as well as federal and state legislators who have recently aligned with the party, stressing the importance of unity and collaboration.

“ADC is committed to people-oriented governance and national renewal.

“Together, we shall deepen internal democracy, promote good governance, and restore hope to our people,” he added.

Mr. Nwosu reaffirmed that the ADC remained a political home for transformative leaders committed to Nigeria’s progress, unity, opportunity, and shared prosperity.

“Once again, welcome to the African Democratic Congress. Together, we move Nigeria forward,” he said.
