United States President Donald Trump is focused on ending the killing of Christians in Nigeria, a US congressman, Mr. Riley Moore, has said.

Mr. Moore, a member of the United States House of Representatives, said recent air strikes on terrorist targets in Nigeria were aimed at preventing attacks on Christian communities.

According to him, the bombardment was carried out in coordination with the Nigerian government.

“We did this in coordination with the Nigerian government, which is very important to point out. This isn’t the United States unilaterally acting; we are working with the Nigerian government to help secure their country and end the slaughter of Christians in Nigeria,” Mr. Moore said in a post on X.

The United States launched air strikes on Christmas Day against two terrorist enclaves in the Bauni Forest, located in Tangaza Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

Mr. Moore said Christian communities in Nigeria had been attacked by terrorists on Christmas Day over the past two years, adding that President Trump responded by authorising strikes against the perpetrators.

Attaching a clip of his interview on Fox News, the lawmaker said the air strikes, carried out in collaboration with the Nigerian government, were intended to “end the slaughter of Christians in Nigeria.”

“So, quite a bit different, the President is totally focused on this. He made that very clear in this attack, and this is a very good first step to addressing this issue,” he said.

He further stated that massacres of Christians had occurred in Nigeria during the past two Christmas seasons.

“The tables have absolutely turned this year. The Islamic terrorists in Nigeria were the ones receiving that type of present this year,” he said.

Mr. Moore also claimed that critics of the air strikes were “playing to their Islamic radical base that they now have to appease, for whatever reason.”
