Head Coach Eric Chelle has named Captain William Ekong, Victor Osimhen, Wilfred Ndidi, and Stanley Nwabali in a 55-man provisional squad for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The list also includes Maduka Okoye, Zaidu Sanusi, Calvin Bassey, Semi Ajayi, Frank Onyeka, Alex Iwobi, and Raphael Onyedika ahead of the tournament in Morocco.

Among the forwards are Ademola Lookman, Samuel Chukwueze, Simon Moses, and Chidera Ejuke, selected by the Super Eagles’ technical team. Nigeria Premier Football League stars Abdulrasheed Shehu, Ebenezer Harcourt, Ekeson Okorie, Chisom Orji, and Adekunle Adeleke also made the provisional list.

According to a statement issued on Tuesday by Mr. Ademola Olajire, Director of Communications at the Nigeria Football Federation, Chelle is expected to trim the list to 28 players in the coming days as preparations intensify.

“The Super Eagles will open camp in Egypt on Wednesday, 10 December, to begin preparations for the 35th Africa Cup of Nations,” the statement noted.
“The team will play friendly matches during the camp before the tournament kicks off on Sunday, 21 December, in Morocco. Nigeria will compete in Group C alongside Tanzania, Tunisia, and Uganda at the month-long championship.”
