After North-East Visit, Army Chief Vows Stronger National Security
The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, on Tuesday met with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, to brief him on his recent visit to the North-East and the general security situation across the country.
The visit was the COAS’s first to the State House since his appointment, alongside other service chiefs, on 30 October.
Lt.-Gen. Shaibu, who had earlier visited Maiduguri, Borno State, to meet troops of Operation Hadin Kai and the Joint Task Force (JTF) North-East, said the meeting with the President focused on strategies to strengthen counterterrorism and counterinsurgency operations.
“I came to brief Mr. President on the outcome of my visit to the North-East region and to discuss other security developments across the country, which have been largely satisfactory,” he told reporters after the meeting.
The Army Chief assured Nigerians of enhanced security nationwide, adding, “Nigerians should expect improved security across the country.”
Since assuming office, Lt.-Gen. Shaibu has prioritised professionalism, troops’ welfare, and inter-agency collaboration to consolidate peace and stability nationwide.
