‘Keep Hope Alive’: Tinubu Rallies Super Eagles After Osimhen’s Hat-Trick Heroics

President Bola Tinubu has congratulated the Super Eagles on their emphatic 4–0 victory over the Cheetahs of Benin Republic and commended the team for keeping the nation’s hopes alive in their quest to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The President praised the players’ hunger, passion, and determination during the match in Uyo, noting that their spirited performance has reignited national pride in Nigerian football.

“While the job is not yet complete, I join millions of Nigerians in wishing our team every success in the playoffs,” Tinubu said in a statement signed by his media aide, Bayo Onanuga.
“The mood across the country reflects a shared belief that Nigeria deserves a place at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be co-hosted by Canada, Mexico, and the United States. As your President, I assure you and the coaching crew of the Federal Government’s full support. Nigerians believe in you – and so do I.”

The Super Eagles’ victory came courtesy of a hat-trick from Victor Osimhen and a goal from Frank Onyeka. However, despite the win, Nigeria remains second in the group after South Africa defeated Rwanda 3–0 to retain top spot with 18 points, while Nigeria follows closely with 17.

Nonetheless, the Super Eagles stand a strong chance of qualifying as one of the best runners-up, keeping their World Cup hopes alive through the playoff route.
