US Warns Corrupt Nigerians: No One Too Powerful for Visa Ban
The United States Mission in Nigeria has reiterated that Nigerians involved in corruption could face visa bans, regardless of status or wealth.
The statement, posted on the Mission’s official X (formerly Twitter) account on Monday, underscored Washington’s stance on global anti-corruption efforts.
“Fighting corruption knows no borders or limits on accountability. Even when high-profile individuals engage in corruption, they can be barred from receiving US visas,” the Mission stated.
In May 2023, the US imposed visa restrictions on individuals who disrupted Nigeria’s general elections. Secretary of State Antony Blinken stressed Washington’s commitment to supporting democracy worldwide.
Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump at the weekend introduced a new $100,000 fee on H-1B visas, sparking confusion and anxiety among foreign workers who rely on the programme.
