NEC Approves Renewed Hope Plan to Drive $1 Trillion Economy by 2030

The National Economic Council (NEC) on Thursday unveiled the framework for the Renewed Hope Development Plan (2026–2030), designed to consolidate Nigeria’s reform agenda and achieve President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s target of a $1 trillion economy by 2030.

The resolution was reached at the council’s 151st meeting, chaired by Vice President Kashim Shettima at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Atiku Bagudu, told State House correspondents that the plan, code-named the Renewed Hope National Plan, formed part of a 30-year development strategy to ensure inclusive and accelerated growth.

Vice President Shettima said the new plan would build on existing policies, strengthen continuity, and align Nigeria’s growth trajectory with the Nigeria Agenda 2050.

“This is no ordinary transition. It bridges lessons learnt with ambitions pursued. The Renewed Hope Plan consolidates reforms, deepens policy continuity, and charts a practical roadmap towards a $1 trillion economy by 2030,” Shettima said.

He added that the plan would be participatory, involving state and local governments, civil society, private sector players, labour, youth, and traditional institutions.

Shettima also announced that NASENI had scaled up the local production of solar-powered irrigation pumps to cut energy costs for farmers and expand dry-season farming.

On immunisation, NEC called on the Accountant-General of the Federation to release funds promptly to support the next campaign, while urging partners to use technology to strengthen surveillance and tracking systems.
