From No-Fly List to Role Model? Emmanson May Get AON Ambassador Role
The Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON) is considering appointing Comfort Emmanson — the Ibom Air passenger recently released after facing charges of unruly conduct — as an ambassador for good passenger behaviour, according to the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo.
In a statement on Wednesday, Keyamo said Emmanson had shown remorse and could serve as a role model to promote civility in air travel. The move follows the Federal Government’s decision to engage Fuji music legend Wasiu Ayinde Marshal (KWAM 1) as an unpaid ambassador for airport security protocols, after he attempted to block a moving aircraft at Abuja’s Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport on 5 August 2025.
Addressing criticism of both appointments, Keyamo said the government had been “fair to all” and clarified that the roles were voluntary, akin to community service, and carried no financial benefits.
Emmanson was released on Wednesday after Magistrate Olanrewaju Salami struck out the five charges against her, following the complainant’s withdrawal. She had been accused of assaulting a flight attendant and confronting security officials at Lagos airport, leading to a lifetime no-fly ban by the AON.
While condemning her conduct, Keyamo also criticised the circulation of a video showing her partially exposed during the incident, and ordered action against the Ibom Air staff responsible for the leak.
