FG Lauds Dangote Refinery’s World-Class Engineering, Youth Empowerment
The Federal Government has commended the Dangote Petroleum Refinery for its engineering excellence and commitment to youth development.
During a visit to the refinery in the Lekki Free Trade Zone, Lagos, Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr Jumoke Oduwole, praised both the infrastructure and the calibre of young Nigerians operating the facility. She described it as a model of national pride.
“This is more than bricks and mortar. The talent powering this project is extraordinary. Young Nigerians are handling world-class machinery with professionalism and skill,” she said.
Oduwole, a senior university lecturer, expressed pride in the local engineers and hailed Dangote’s vision for transforming Nigeria’s industrial landscape. She also lauded the project’s scale and ambition, saying, “There’s nowhere else like this in the world.”
Edwin Devakumar, Vice President, Oil & Gas at Dangote Industries, said the 650,000-barrels-per-day refinery meets all of Nigeria’s refined fuel needs and produces Euro-V quality products for export. The refinery includes a marine terminal, a 435MW power plant, and an integrated petrochemical facility.
He noted that over 60,000 Nigerians were employed during the construction phase, with many now working abroad as expatriates, contributing to Nigeria’s foreign exchange inflow. The facility has also earned praise from the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board and leading engineering bodies for its training and inclusion of Nigerian professionals.
The Dangote Refinery, the world’s largest single-train facility, is seen as a major step toward reducing Nigeria’s dependence on imported fuels and bolstering economic growth.
