Aisha Yesufu Vows to Escort Senator Natasha Back to Senate
Prominent activist Aisha Yesufu has declared her support for Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan as the embattled Kogi Central lawmaker insists on resuming her legislative duties on Tuesday despite Senate opposition.
Speaking on Channels Television, Yesufu said she and other supporters would accompany the senator to the National Assembly, citing a Federal High Court ruling that declared her suspension unconstitutional.

“If the Senate decides to kill us, let them. We’ll be with her and stand with her,” Yesufu said, condemning the suspension as part of a broader pattern of systemic discrimination against women in politics. She criticised the Senate for disobeying court orders and accused the judiciary of succumbing to political pressure.
Akpoti-Uduaghan reaffirmed her decision to return, stating she has only two months left in her six-month suspension. “I’ve written to the Senate informing them I’m resuming on the 22nd, as the court has ruled the suspension unconstitutional,” she said.
The Senate, however, maintains that no binding court order mandates her recall. Senate spokesperson Yemi Adaramodu insisted that the ruling was merely advisory and warned against any attempt to resume prematurely.
Akpoti-Uduaghan was suspended in March 2025 for allegedly breaching Senate rules and making sexual misconduct allegations against Senate President Godswill Akpabio, which he has denied.
