Tinubu Hosts Pastor Tunde Bakare Amid Past Criticism
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Wednesday met with the Serving Overseer of the Citadel Global Community Church (CGCC), Pastor Tunde Bakare, in Lagos.
The meeting was disclosed by Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, in a post on X.
Pastor Bakare, a former presidential aspirant under the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2023 elections, said their conversation focused on national development and the future of Nigeria.
“It’s not just about reservations; it’s about ensuring the country progresses,” Bakare said. “My vision is to see a nation that works in my lifetime. I discussed these matters with Mr President. These are not secrets, but I believe when you speak with the person in charge, you leave it to him to act as he deems fit.”
He added: “I’m grateful for the audience and the cordial reception I received. I trust God will help our nation.”
The meeting comes weeks after Bakare criticised Tinubu’s leadership, alleging that the President was steering Nigeria in the wrong direction. In April, he condemned the relationship between the executive and legislative arms under Tinubu and urged the President to “stop playing God.”
“To the President, under whose brand of politics legislative oversight is collapsing and democracy is under threat, I say: Nigeria is too fragile for this kind of politics,” he warned.
“If what you meant by emi lo kan is state capture, then it is an anti-climax that will ultimately prove counterproductive. No man is wise or good enough to wield unlimited power. Please, stop playing God.”
He further accused Tinubu of enabling legislative impunity through his influence on the National Assembly.
