South-East PDP Threatens to Exit Party Over National Secretary Dispute

The crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) deepened on Wednesday, as its South-East caucus threatened to withdraw from the party if Hon. Sunday Udeh-Okoye is not reinstated as National Secretary.

At a zonal executive meeting in Enugu, chaired by PDP Zonal Chairman, Chief Ali Odefa, leaders from the South-East expressed frustration over delays in ratifying Udeh-Okoye’s nomination, which they said had been submitted multiple times since October 2023.

Enugu State Governor and PDP leader in the region, Dr. Peter Mbah, called for unity and fairness, urging the National Working Committee (NWC) to immediately endorse Udeh-Okoye and allow Arch. Setonji Koshoedo to act in the interim.

The caucus accused the party of disrespecting the region, warning that further delay would force the zone to reconsider its relationship with the PDP. The communique noted that the South-East has been a loyal stronghold since the party’s inception.

Chairman of the PDP Board of Trustees, Senator Adolphus Wabara, and former Imo State Governor, Chief Achike Udenwa, also criticised the leadership’s treatment of the region.

“If this was the South-South, this matter would not linger,” Wabara said.
