Inter Edge Barcelona in 7–6 Thriller to Reach Champions League Final
Davide Frattesi fired Inter Milan into the UEFA Champions League final on Tuesday with a dramatic extra-time goal, sealing a 4–3 win over Barcelona on the night and 7–6 on aggregate.
Under heavy rain at San Siro, the Italy midfielder struck in the 99th minute, sending the stadium into raptures and securing Inter’s second final appearance in three years. The Italian giants will now face either Arsenal or Paris Saint-Germain in Munich later this month.
The victory was a lifeline for Inter’s season, after crashing out of the Coppa Italia and falling behind Napoli in the Serie A title race. But they ended Barcelona’s hopes of a quadruple in an unforgettable semi-final clash.
Frattesi’s goal – his seventh of the season – came moments after Inter had clawed their way back from the brink. Raphinha had given Barcelona a 3–2 lead in the 88th minute, completing a comeback from two goals down at the break.
But Francesco Acerbi stunned the visitors with a stoppage-time equaliser, converting Denzel Dumfries’ cross to force extra time.
Barcelona had dominated the second half, erasing Inter’s first-half advantage earned through a superb Lautaro Martínez strike and a penalty by Hakan Çalhanoğlu. Goals from Eric García and Dani Olmo, both assisted by Gerard Martin, brought the visitors level.
Inter goalkeeper Yann Sommer was crucial to keeping his side in the match, pulling off a string of outstanding saves—most notably denying García from close range and later stopping Lamine Yamal’s effort in the 113th minute.
Inter held on through a tense final stretch to book their ticket to the final in what many are calling the match of the season.
