PDP Governors Ask NWC to Shift NEC Meeting to 13 March
Governors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have called on the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) to shift its forthcoming National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting to 13 March 2025.
The call was made in a communiqué issued in Asaba, Delta State, following a meeting attended by 12 PDP governors. The communiqué was signed by Bauchi State Governor and Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, Senator Bala Mohammed.
“The Forum used the opportunity to assess the performance of PDP-led states and the general state of the nation as of the end of 2024. In light of the significant socio-economic, security, infrastructural, and other challenges confronting the country, the Forum commended member-state governors for implementing people-focused policies aimed at alleviating hardship and laying the groundwork for sustainable development,” the statement read.
The governors expressed satisfaction with ongoing efforts to resolve the internal crisis within the NWC, particularly concerning the office of the National Secretary. They reaffirmed their support for the Court of Appeal’s ruling on the matter and urged the NWC to implement the judgment without delay.
“Having reviewed the statutory requirements for convening a valid NEC meeting, the Forum advised the NWC to reschedule the session to 13 March 2025,” the communiqué stated.
The NEC meeting, which had previously been postponed twice in the last three months by the Acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum, had been rescheduled for February—a decision opposed by the party’s Board of Trustees (BoT).
According to Section 31(4) of the PDP Constitution, NEC meetings must be held quarterly. The last NEC meeting was convened in April 2024.
The NEC is the party’s highest decision-making body and includes serving and former presidents, vice presidents, governors, principal officers of the National Assembly, BoT members, state chairpersons, NWC members, and founding members.
