The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has withdrawn an earlier invitation extended to the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, over a death recorded during the Eid-el-Fitr celebrations in Kano.

The police had invited the Emir last Friday for questioning in Abuja concerning the incident, which occurred on 30 March during the Sallah festivities. However, in a statement issued on Sunday, police spokesman Muyiwa Adejobi said the invitation had been rescinded.

He explained that the decision followed consultations with key stakeholders and was in line with the IGP’s commitment to ensuring policing is not politicised or misinterpreted.

Instead of a formal invitation, officers from the Force Intelligence Department (FID) have been directed to obtain the Emir’s statement in Kano.

Adejobi assured the public that all individuals found culpable would be held accountable.

“The Force remains committed to justice, neutrality, and professionalism,” the statement read.
