Nwaeke Refutes Kidnap Claims, Says He Voluntarily Travelled to Abuja

Former Rivers State Head of Service, George Nwaeke, has assured the public that he is safe and currently staying at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel in Abuja.

His statement comes after his wife, Florence Nwaeke, raised an alarm late on Friday, stating that she was unaware of his whereabouts following his resignation from office.

A distressed Mrs. Nwaeke told journalists that she feared for her husband’s safety, as she had not been able to reach him.

“When he arrived in Abuja, he called to inform me that he had landed. I was relieved,” she recounted. “Later, people started calling me, saying he had granted an interview. I was shocked. What interview? About what? Then, I saw reports circulating online, and I said, ‘That is not my husband.’

“I sent him a message asking if he was under duress or had been kidnapped. I pleaded with him to respond, but he didn’t. His numbers were unreachable. Nigerians, please help me! My husband is in trouble!” she cried.

However, in a video statement released on Saturday morning, Nwaeke clarified that he travelled to Abuja voluntarily to meet with security agencies and report certain troubling developments in Rivers State.

“I am George Nwaeke, and I am currently at the Transcorp Hilton in Abuja. I arrived this morning to report myself to the security agencies regarding some disturbing events in Rivers State,” he stated.

“I was Head of Service until Monday, when I resigned due to these issues. After granting a press interview, I saw a video of my wife in distress, being misled into believing that I had been kidnapped.

“I want to set the record straight: I was not kidnapped. I am in Abuja, staying at the Transcorp Hilton. My wife has no knowledge of what happens in my office; we only discuss family and social matters. The statements attributed to her were scripted by those manipulating the situation.

“I am safe. Tomorrow morning, I will formally report to the security agencies. I chose Abuja because it houses the headquarters of these agencies, and I believe I am safer here while making this report. Everything I have said is true, and I stand by it.”

Nwaeke recently made several allegations against Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara. Among his claims, he accused the governor of planning to support Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed in the 2027 presidential election and of meeting with militants to incite attacks on oil facilities and other critical assets.
