Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan Notified as INEC Moves Forward with Recall Process

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has confirmed receipt of the contact details of representatives behind the petition to recall Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central.

On Tuesday, INEC acknowledged receiving the petition but noted that it did not meet the necessary requirements, as the petitioners initially failed to provide their contact information. However, in a statement issued on Wednesday, INEC National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information & Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun, stated that the missing details have now been submitted.

Following this, the commission has notified Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan of the petition and has also informed the Senate leadership. The next step involves scrutinising the list of signatories to confirm whether over 50% of registered voters in the constituency support the recall.

Olumekun assured Nigerians that the process will be conducted with transparency, and the outcome will determine the commission’s next course of action.
