Dozens of Vehicles Burnt, Lives Feared Lost in Abuja Fuel Tanker Blast

A petrol-laden tanker exploded on Wednesday on Karu Bridge along the Abuja-Nyanya-Keffi Road in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), engulfing several vehicles in flames and triggering fears of multiple casualties.

At least 30 vehicles were destroyed in the inferno, prompting an urgent response from emergency services. While the exact number of casualties remains unclear, eyewitnesses reported scenes of panic as motorists and passengers attempted to escape the raging fire.

According to reports, the explosion occurred after the tanker, transporting Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), lost control and crashed on the bridge. The resulting fire rapidly spread to nearby vehicles, creating a chaotic situation.

Military personnel and emergency responders swiftly arrived at the scene to manage the crisis. Security officials cordoned off the affected area and redirected traffic to facilitate the operations of firefighters and medical personnel.

As of the time of this report, rescue efforts are ongoing, and authorities are working to determine the number of casualties.
