EFCC Summons Former Attorney-General Malami for Interview
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has summoned the immediate past Attorney-General of the Federation, Mr. Abubakar Malami.
The invitation, contained in a letter dated 24 November, scheduled the former minister to appear before investigators on Friday, 28 November.
“The Commission is investigating a case for which the need to obtain certain information from you becomes imperative,” the letter read. It was signed by Sunday Atiba Ofen-Imu on behalf of the EFCC Chairman, Mr. Ola Olukoyede.
Friday’s meeting is expected to hold at the EFCC Headquarters, Institution and Research District, Jabi, Abuja.
“In view of the above, you are requested to kindly attend an interview with the undersigned through the Head, Special Duty Committee-3.
“This request is made pursuant to Section 38(1) and (2) of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (Establishment) Act, 2024.
“Your cooperation in this regard is highly solicited, please,” the letter concluded.
The EFCC did not, however, indicate the specific reason for inviting the former Attorney-General.
Meanwhile, Mr. Malami has acknowledged receipt of the summons and pledged to honour the invitation.
In a statement obtained by Channels Television on Friday, the former minister said he remained committed to cooperating with investigators and upholding principles of transparency in public service.
“This is to confirm that I have been invited by the EFCC. As a law-abiding and patriotic citizen, I hereby reaffirm my commitment to honour the invitation,” he stated.
He added that accountability was a core value he had always championed.
“I understand the spirit of accountability and transparency in public service — the principles that I both advocate and champion.
“Rooted in public service, and in the spirit of transparency and accountability, I am committed to sharing with the Nigerian public the developments as they unfold,” he said.
Mr. Malami served as Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice under former President Muhammadu Buhari.
